What is the future of your campus computer labs?

As institutions nationwide reach their classroom capacity and laptops become commonplace among the student population, many campuses are considering repurposing former computer lab space into collaborative learning zones or “smart” classroom space. Join us for a webcast that will showcase Bentley University’s recent renovation of a former computer lab space. Recognizing the inefficiencies with the former space, Bentley reimagined what a computer lab or tutoring lab could look like after renovation. Incorporating flexible space concepts and re-envisioning the management approach to the space, Bentley created an innovative technology-infused “sandbox” for its CIS students, opening the space for general campus use in the fall of 2011.

The audience for this topic includes facilities managers, directors of space planning, campus planners, directors of capital planning, and assistant directors of space planning and management. IT staff and faculty members with a vested interest in computer lab or tutoring lab space may also benefit from this content. Campus sustainability officers focused on improving the efficiency of their computer labs may also be interested.

Senior Lecturer of Computer Information Systems, and Director of the CIS Learning and Technology Sandbox

Bentley University

Mark Frydenberg is a senior lecturer of computer information systems at Bentley University, and the director of its Learning and Technology Sandbox. A classroom innovator, Mark recently introduced a multidisciplinary Web 2.0 course where business and liberal arts students explore social media and Web 2.0 technologies, their use in the enterprise, and their influence on society. He is the author of Web 2.0 Concepts and Applications, a textbook published by Cengage Learning. His research centers on Web 2.0 literacy and engaging students with new technology. Mark has spoken about teaching and learning with new technologies at conferences and events throughout the US and Europe.
