Conducting a Climate Survey to Improve Diversity and Inclusion (Webcast Recording)

Last updated March 7, 2018

Overview

Successful climate surveys are transparent and actionable – are you well-positioned for such an undertaking?

Many institutions sink thousands of dollars into a climate survey, yet struggle to get adequate response rates and translate the data into truly actionable results. Join us for a webcast that will teach you cost-effective and efficient strategies for navigating the climate assessment process successfully on your campus. Our expert instructors from Grand Valley State University will share research-based best practices for how to:

  • Work with senior leadership to build a case for and gain clarity about the value and goals of climate assessment for your institution on the front end
  • Roll out the survey and ensure you receive a healthy response rate
  • Share the results with campus constituents in a transparent and productive way
  • Ensure that your results translate into meaningful change at the programmatic, service, and dialogue levels on campus

You will see specific examples from GVSU’s own climate assessment work and results along the way.

Who should attend?

This webcast is beneficial to diversity and inclusion, student affairs, and institutional research professionals working in higher education who are interested in or planning to administer a climate survey on their campus. This training does not specifically cover Title IX/sexual misconduct climate surveys.

Agenda

Defining the Parameters of Your Project

  • What are the goals of your particular survey?
  • What kind of assessment instrument should you use? What are the options out there?
  • How will you validate the data you collect?
  • What is the best way to roll out the survey and ensure you get a healthy response rate?

Sense-Making and Creating Meaningful Results

  • Once you receive your results, what should the sense-making and analysis process look like?
  • How can you share the results back to constituents in a transparent and productive way?
  • How can you effect meaningful change through programs, services, and/or dialogue that stem directly from your results?
