Personal Mastery · Module 1.1
The version of you that shows up in a stressful team meeting may not be the version you intend to be. This module starts with your Five Paths profile and applies it to one specific moment: leading a change you did not choose.
Start with your profile
A quick refresher on the four paths, and the fifth that is not a style at all:
Critical Thinker
Analytical, systematic, data-driven.
Relator
Relationship-focused, empathetic, collaborative.
Visionary
Big-picture, innovative, future-oriented.
Warrior
Decisive, action-oriented, results-driven.
The Sage is not scored. It is the ongoing awareness of your own tendencies that lets you lead with intention instead of by default. It is a practice, not a style, built through habits like daily reflection and seeking feedback. This module focuses on one piece of that practice, catching your shift under stress.
Find your shift
Your results show two profiles: how you lead under normal conditions, and how that shifts under stress. The shift itself, not either score on its own, is the most useful thing your results tell you.
Pull up your results in My Path. Which path do you move toward when the pressure is on, and how far is the shift from your normal profile?
Capture your answer in your own notes.
What if your scores did not shift much?
That does not mean this module does not apply to you. It can mean you already regulate well under normal pressure, or it can mean the shift shows up in intensity rather than a change in which path leads.
A shift worth paying real attention to is usually a change in order, a path that was not your top score under normal conditions becomes your top score under stress, or a path that was already your strongest becomes noticeably more pronounced. If you do not see a shift like that, look for a smaller version instead: which path gets even slightly stronger under stress, even if the ranking does not change?
Notice how your behavior actually changes
Before comparing notes with the official framework, put it in your own words first.
When you are under real pressure, what actually changes about how you show up? What you say, how you listen, how fast you move, what you stop doing.
Capture your answer in your own notes.
Compare it to the four paths
Stress does not create new behaviors, it amplifies the ones you already have. Most leaders slide from the wisdom side of their default path into its shadow side without realizing it, and leading a change you did not choose is exactly the kind of pressure that triggers that slide.
Critical Thinker
Leader as Expert
Under stress
Gets stuck in analysis, dismisses ideas that do not meet your standards, and can withdraw into data to avoid an uncomfortable conversation.
One way back
Name one thing that is good enough for now, and ask a trusted colleague for a gut-check before analyzing further.
Relator
Leader as Servant
Under stress
Avoids a necessary confrontation to preserve peace, and can say yes to everyone until you are depleted.
One way back
Name the one boundary you most need to set right now, and schedule the conversation you have been postponing.
Visionary
Leader as Designer
Under stress
Jumps to a new idea before finishing the last one, and can become scattered or disengaged from execution.
One way back
Write down your top three priorities and commit to finishing them before starting anything new.
Warrior
Leader as Example
Under stress
Pushes for action so hard that people disengage, and can dismiss input from others to keep moving.
One way back
Slow down intentionally, and ask one genuine question before sharing your conclusion.
Which shadow side matches what you described in steps 2 and 3, and which recovery move will you actually try the next time you feel the slide?
Capture your answer in your own notes.
Name what you have learned
Insight only helps if you actually carry it forward. This is not about achieving constant vigilance, it is about naming clearly what you now understand about yourself.
What is one thing you have learned about yourself in this module that you want to be more aware of going forward?
Capture your answer in your own notes.
