Melissa Williamson Nelson
Melissa represents management, college, and university clients in matters related to sexual harassment, sexual assault, and sexual discrimination. Her practice includes litigation in the areas of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, 42 U.S.C.A. § 1983, and Title IX of the Education Amendments, 20 U.S.C. § § 1681-1688, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and defamation. She represents employers and educational institutions before state and federal courts, federal and state administrative agencies, arbitrators, and mediators. Outside the courtroom, Melissa assists businesses with internal reviews and audits, and represents individuals and corporations in threatened or pending white collar criminal investigations and cases.
Before joining McGuireWoods, Melissa spent twelve years as an assistant state attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Florida. She worked closely with federal and state law enforcement and regulatory agencies. Melissa has taught classes in trial advocacy and trial practice at Florida Coastal School of Law and continues to lecture to pre-law students at the University of North Florida. She continues to be recognized by Florida Trend’s Florida Legal Elite and Florida Super Lawyers.
