Susan is the inaugural Assistant Dean of the Career Development Office at MIT Sloan School of Management. In this newly created role, she provides strategic vision and management of the 23 staff member CDO serving students and alumni across MIT Sloan’s diverse portfolio of graduate business programs. Before joining MIT Sloan, Susan was the Associate Vice President of University Career Services at Bentley University. Under Susan’s leadership, Bentley was ranked the #1 Career Services and #1 Internship program in the country and awarded the 2018 National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Excellence award. A recognized thought leader, Susan is a sought after expert to major media including Bloomberg Business Week, Wall Street Journal, and Chronicle of Higher Education, as well as a Board member of NACE and the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) Commission on Employability. Prior to entering higher education, Susan was a management consultant focused on human capital strategies. She holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, an EdM from Harvard University, and an MBA from Babson College.
Ana Baida, a native of Texas, began her career in Career Development in 2008. She began as an internship and co-op advisor in the College of Science and Mathematics at Kennesaw State University. It was in this position that she became passionate about building bridges between student and academic affairs. After just a year and a half, Ana was promoted to serve as the Assistant Director of what was then Career Services. In this position, she broadened the scope of her work, and began to partner more closely with faculty all around the university. In 2014, she became the Interim Director of Career Services and shortly thereafter was named the Executive Director of what she and her team rebranded as the Department of Career Planning and Development to better frame the work. Ana enjoys working at Kennesaw State, because it is an innovative institution that provides opportunities to think strategically and holistically about best practices on an ongoing basis.
Marcus Hanscom is an established higher education marketing and enrollment management professional and consultant, having served in a variety of roles working with undergraduate and graduate students for 13 years. He currently serves as Director of Graduate Admission at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI, where he helped facilitate seven percent average annual new student growth since his arrival and has helped build graduate student community and services on campus with new student fees and the forthcoming graduate student association. He previously worked in progressive roles in undergraduate and graduate admission at the University of New Haven in West Haven, CT. Marcus has presented widely on marketing strategies for adult and graduate students at national and regional conferences for Academic Impressions, Aslanian Market Research, Carnegie Communications, NAGAP, NEGAP, STAMATS, TxGAP, and others, and now serves for his third term on the NAGAP Board of Directors. He was awarded the Future Leader Award by NAGAP in 2012 and was the founding president of NEGAP, the New England Association for Graduate Enrollment Management.
Patrick Calhoun offers insight into trends and strategies for effective planning of modern academic libraries. He has more than 20 years of architectural experience in academic settings, with a focus on planning and user engagement in learning environments. Leading Stantec’s Library and Learning Commons Research and Benchmarking Team, Patrick has been involved in both primary and secondary research on academic libraries, benchmarking best-practice facilities, speaking nationally, and applying innovative approaches to learning commons and libraries of all scales for both 2- and 4-year institutions.
Dr. David Mariott has worked in college admissions for the past seven years and has extensive experience utilizing data, research, and CRM technology to implement action-driven strategies in undergraduate recruitment. He currently serves as the Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Oklahoma State University (OSU) and leads the enrollment management division’s data management and research initiatives. Dr. Mariott also serves as an affiliate faculty member in the Higher Education and Student Affairs graduate programs at OSU. His research interests focus on the nexus between public policy and college access. He earned his B.A. in political science from the University of Missouri, a M.A. in political science from the University of Arizona, a M.S. in Student Affairs from Missouri State University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Oklahoma State University.
Cecilia’s responsibilities include advising undeclared transfer students in the College of Arts & Sciences and for the MizzouMACC program for students dually enrolled between Mizzou and Moberly Area Community College. She also leads first generation and transfer student initiatives and is currently leading the development of a brand new transfer student center at Mizzou. Previously Cecilia was the Director for the Center for Academic Retention and Enrichment Services at the University of Memphis (TN) and the Director of Advisement and Career Services at Heartland Community College (IL). She is an active leader within NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising and was recently elected for a three-year term to the NACADA Board of Directors. She received her B.A. in Foreign Language/International Affairs from the University of Puget Sound (WA) and M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Iowa State University.
As the Assistant Vice President of Student Success, Joe routinely leads academic advising, career development, early alert, tutoring, new student experience, opportunity programs, and placement testing. He has presented, served, and received awards for his work in several national higher-education organizations including ACPA, EDUCAUSE, AACRAO, NACADA, NACE, NASPA, and EAB/Starfish. Joe earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Lycoming College and a Master’s in College Student Personnel from Miami University (OH).
Steven Antalvari, M.A.Ed. graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Psychology and Organizational Leadership and Supervision, followed by a graduate degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Akron. In 2008, Steven joined Kent State University advising primarily Exploratory students. Promoted in 2011 to Assistant Director, he architected the Exploration Plan whose backbone is rooted in Life Design and Self Authorship. In 2013, he was promoted again, this time to Director of University Advising, now Academic Engagement and Degree Completion. This position served to provide centralized oversight to the advising offices within the Kent State University system. During his tenure in this position, he has focused on training advisors and University community in embracing Career Construction and related narrative driving techniques into student interactions.
Michael P. Macklin is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Workforce Development at the Colorado Community College System. His primary focuses are workforce development, noncredit programming, and business partnership development. Through Mr. Macklin’s work with digital badges, he is leveraging the power of digital credential opportunities in advanced manufacturing, healthcare and information technology. He understands that digital badges are key in sustaining and expanding workforce skillsets with community and business partners as this allows for unprecedented access to affordable reskilling and upskilling opportunities.
Dr. Olena Zhadko is an enthusiastic educator devoted to advancing teaching and learning with technology. Olena has had experience with online learning as a student, instructor, designer and an administrator and she brings nearly 15 years of experience in Higher Education. She currently serves as the Director of Online Education at Lehman College, City University of New York, acting as the College’s senior administrator charged with the oversight of all facets of online instruction, from web-enhanced learning experiences to hybrid course development and fully online programming. Olena has worked at three innovative academic centers, providing leadership and assistance in articulating and implementing effective teaching, and infusing best practices into curriculum development, delivery, and assessment through the effective use of technology. Her work has focused on innovative approaches in faculty development and meeting faculty where they are in the fast-changing academic environment. She received a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Teaching and Learning and Educational Technology from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. She is an alumna of the Institute for the Emerging Leadership in Online Learning (IELOL), and the International Institute for Faculty Developers. She also serves on the advisory board of the Distance Teaching and Learning Conference.
