Introducing Yourself
In this second section, we will discuss how to go about meeting and greeting in your community at large. We will explore formal and informal ways to attend meetings and social events so that community members get to know you as the Chief of Staff.
Maintaining Connections
Once you have established a relationship, it is imperative to keep open communication between you and external constituents in the community. In this last section, we will discuss ideas to regularly touch base, how to handle crises when they arise, and how to maintain professional distance while remaining an engaged member of the community at large.

Ryan DeBoef
Chief of Staff and Assistant to the President for Governmental Relations, Missouri State University
Ryan has been in his role since July 2014. He is responsible for facilitating the university’s achievement of its state and federal legislative agendas and coordinating the governmental relations activities of the university. Prior to becoming Chief of Staff, he served as legal counsel for Missouri State University for almost four years. Before arriving at Missouri State, Ryan was an associate at Husch Blackwell, LLP and a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Richard E. Dorr. DeBoef received his law degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 2005. He received his Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude in 2001 from Evangel University with majors in government and public administration.
