Daniel Fusch

Daniel provided strategic direction and content for AI’s electronic publication Higher Ed Impact, including market research and interviews with leading subject matter experts on critical issues. Since the publication’s launch in 2009, Daniel has written or edited more than 500 articles on strategic issues ranging from student recruitment and retention to development and capital planning.

Kevin Kientz, CFO, Academic Impressions

Kevin has been working in the higher education industry for more than 20 years. He joined Academic Impressions in 2004 as the company’s first full-time employee. Kevin holds bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Finance and a master’s degree in Economics. In 2013-14, Kevin led the research and initial implementation of Academic Impressions’ first Online All-Access membership, higher education’s premier annual membership for professional development and training. As CFO, Kevin is responsible for AI’s financial strategy and helping to coordinate AI’s resources. He also supports the data analytics efforts for AI and is responsible for providing analysis for many of AI’s internal and external projects. Kevin is an avid Denver Nuggets fan and enjoys watching games with his two children. A lifelong learner, Kevin uses his spare time to solve riddles or read about surprising findings in behavioral economics and applied math.

Sonja Likness

Sonja Likness takes care of university-wide social media consultations and strategy, content development and distribution, analytics reporting and strategy in the University Communications at Duke University. She joined Duke in 2014 with extensive experience in social media and brand-building as well as analytics and cross-platform planning.

T. David Garcia

In his current position, T. David Garcia oversees Undergraduate Admissions Office and Student Financial Aid Office. Prior to working at Kent State University, Dave served as Director of Admissions at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Prior to OU, Dave was the Director of Admissions at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. Before WIU, Dave served various roles in undergraduate admissions at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. In total, Dave has more than 24 years in higher education. Dave has developed several SEM plans using different models. In some cases, he has developed SEM plans that included 3 or less departments or SEM plans that included many departments. In the end, a holistic process of creating a shared vision and producing a working document that allows for changes are the most important factors when developing a 3-year or 5-year SEM plan.

Valerie Cushman

Valerie brings over 30 years of higher education experience to this work. Her career began at Vassar College where she was a member of the faculty and associate director of athletics. In 1997 she moved to Virginia and Randolph College where she served as the director of athletics and chair of physical education for most of her 10-year tenure but served as the special assistant to the president through the co-education transition. In 2007, she took on the role of senior assistant to the president at Washington and Lee University. Following that she worked as a consultant for her own company, Cushman Curry Consulting, and for Cenergistic, Inc. an energy conservation firm that works with schools and colleges. Throughout her career her academic and professional work has focused on access to education and equity and opportunity for women, particularly as it relates to Title IX and athletics. Her educational background includes a B.S. in physical education from SUNY Cortland, an M.S. in sport management from East Stroudsburg University, and a Ph.D. in higher education and cultural foundations of education from Syracuse University.

Carrie Steuber

Carrie has been at MizzouRec Services and Facilities at the University of Missouri since 2006. She holds a Bachelors in Parks, Recreation, & Tourism and a Masters in Architectural Studies. At MizzouRec, she started as an Aquatic Coordinator, overseeing aquatic programing and special events. She transitioned to the “dry side” of the facility in 2010, and began managing facility operations and leading award-winning teams and projects from bare concepts to successful implementations. As a critical member of the senior leadership team, Carrie’s direct oversight includes the 300,000 sq. ft. facility and outdoor sports complex. In addition to daily operations, she has led capital projects and renovations, including the transformation of the in-house spa. She also helped create social space for MizzouRec members and special areas in the facility for boxing and functional fitness workouts.
