Create more equitable and inclusive environments to support the success of LGBTQ faculty and staff leaders. Overview Higher education operates in a heteronormative and cisnormative culture that, left unchecked, inevitably leads to the systemic marginalization and underrepresentation of LGBTQ faculty and staff in leadership positions. While individual support and leadership advancement are important, they do not address the systemic issues that perpetuate these inequities. Join us to discuss practical steps that you and your institution can take to create a more inclusive and equitable environment to support LGBTQ faculty and staff. Who Should Attend Any leader interested in creating inclusive and equitable environments to better support and retain LGBTQ faculty and staff should attend. This second session is intended for all leaders of all identities. Our first session, Creating Community While Navigating Heteronormative Culture: A Discussion for LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education, is designed intentionally for leaders who identify as LGBTQ. Members can register for both events for free. Non-members: Use promo code lgbtq-leadership-bundle for $200 off when yuo register for both trainings. Make connections, build community, and explore strategies to succeed with LGBTQ higher education leaders. LGBTQ faculty and staff continue to lead in higher education—despite the ways in which heteronormative culture continues to perpetuate systemic marginalization and underrepresentation of LGBTQ leaders. In addition to a commitment to dismantling the heteronormative and cisnormative systems that create these inequities, it’s also vital to provide the space for current and future LGBTQ leaders to build community, celebrate accomplishments, explore strategies to navigate these challenges and succeed professionally. The goal of this session is not to suggest that LGBTQ leaders must lead a certain way to be successful—but rather to provide a space for LGBTQ leaders to build community and learn from one another as they navigate and lead within a heteronormative culture. Who Should Attend Current and aspiring leaders interested in building community with other LGBTQ leaders should attend. While this first program is created intentionally for leaders who identify as LGBTQ, any leader interested in creating systemic change at their institution to better support LGBTQ leaders is invited to join us for the second session: Supporting and Retaining LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education: A Training for All Leaders. The Academic […]

Create more equitable and inclusive environments to support the success of Asian faculty and staff leaders. Overview Asian students, faculty, and staff continue to be underrepresented in higher education, and as we look at leadership positions, this gap widens further, with only 1% of college presidents identifying as Asian. In this virtual session, we will discuss steps you and your institution can take to create a more inclusive and equitable environment to support Asian faculty and staff. This program is the second in a two-part series. While this second program is intended for any leader interested in creating systemic change at their institution to better support Asian leaders, the first program is specifically for leaders who identify as Asian. Pullquote Overview Institutions offer myriad giving opportunities that donors might choose to support. From the unrestricted gift to the gift supporting a scholarship or program, many institutions offer dozens or even hundreds of ways donors can allocate their gifts. Unfortunately, with decentralized institutions, a multitude of giving options can lead to inconsistencies in the ways that units, programs, divisions, and schools acknowledge their gifts. For instance, some units or programs may have the resources to acknowledge their donors’ generosity promptly, while others may struggle to acknowledge them even within the recommended two-week time period. In still other instances, a gift may languish in a forgotten fund and be overlooked for months—or even forever! These kinds of delays or inconsistencies with gift acknowledgements can diminish the experiences of your donors and negatively impact your retention rate, causing you to lose contact with even your most loyal and generous donors. Join us in this online training to help you prepare to conduct a gift acknowledgement audit at your institution by learning the steps that the University of Chicago took toward ensuring that their donors receive the thanks they deserve. Who Should Attend This training is for advancement professionals who want to […]
