Navigating Your Career Journey: A Bootcamp for Women Leaders in Higher Education

January 23 – March 6, 2023

Individual Session Dates: January 23, 30, February 6, 13, 27, March 6, 2023

Intentionally shape the next phase of your career with strategies and feedback from successful higher education leaders.

Overview

This six-week online bootcamp for women leaders is designed to help you manage conditions for career growth while gaining invaluable feedback on presenting and advocating for yourself on paper and in person. This is a unique opportunity to learn from some of the best leaders in the industry in a supportive environment alongside other women

This course is intentionally designed to start with an opportunity to reflect on your leadership strengths through completion of The Five Paths to Leadership℠ Self-Assessment and a 360-degree review with feedback from your network, so that you can discover your authentic leadership style. You will identify the skillsets needed to navigate the current and future higher ed landscape, so that you can write a compelling career narrative that captures your strengths, goals, and values. You’ll incorporate these insights into your external-facing communications—such as your CV, resumé, and LinkedIn profile. Most importantly, you’ll leave with a tangible action plan for how to grow your career and the connections that support your goals—all of which will be informed with feedback from the cohort—a network we hope you’ll leverage and support far into the future.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Tips and Strategies from Our Expert Instructor Panel: Learn new skills that will help you implement your career growth strategy immediately in weekly live learning sessions and follow-up assignments.
  • Leadership Assessment: Through Academic Impressions’ Five Paths to Leadership℠ Self-Assessment , individual assignments and group discussions, you’ll discover how you leverage your leadership strengths under typical circumstances as well as more stressful ones.
  • 360 Assessment plus 1-on-1 Feedback: Engage in a 360-degree feedback assessment and get perspective from your colleagues. You will also meet with one of our expert Success Coaches to help you digest your 360 feedback so that you can identify meaningful ways to incorporate this information into your career growth strategy.
  • Community-Building and Networking: Join a small cohort for a 45-minute weekly discussion session to explore questions or challenges you may be encountering and get advice from your peers. During these sessions, you will establish a small team, connect with the speaker, and work through how you plan to implement the action steps you’ve identified.

A Highly Personalized Experience

Your registration for this bootcamp includes weekly small group sessions with each of our expert faculty as well as an individual debrief meeting with one of our Success Coaches to discuss your 360 Assessment feedback. A hallmark of the Academic Impressions bootcamp experience, this focused attention will provide you with the space and time to identify and work toward your career goals. To preserve the intimate and interactive nature of this training, the bootcamp is limited to 30 participants. Register early to reserve your spot!

“This bootcamp was one of those experiences that significantly impacted me and has helped me to shape my efforts for the next year, but at the same time it was truly enjoyable... I appreciated that the speakers also took time to spend with the cohort in smaller groups, that we had a lot of influence over the discussions, and they also invited us to reach out to them individually... Overall, this was a truly valuable experience and I left with a number of contacts, including the cohort and the speakers.”

The Five Paths to Leadership℠ Self-Assessment will help you to understand ways of achieving greater balance among five forms of intelligence so that you can improve your overall effectiveness as a leader. Session 2: Assessing Your Skillsets for Career Growth and Surveying the Higher Ed Landscape

Monday, January 30, 2023 | 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET | Live Learning Session
January 30 – February 3, 2023 | Choose your Small Group Session
Your path to developing your leadership career depends primarily on two components: 1) building the necessary skillsets and demonstrating those skills to others, and 2) shaping the right conditions of support and advocacy as you move forward in your career. We will focus on the first component in this module.

You will learn how to:

  • Build a strategic skillset and develop “horizon” thinking.
  • Balance being detail-oriented while not getting stuck in roles that primarily consist of “non-promotable” tasks. You’ll discuss the many variances that can exist as you define your particular leadership style.
  • Avoid getting trapped into outdated models of leadership and discover the importance of authenticity as you grow as a leader.
  • Identify what conditions are necessary to thrive and grow as a leader, and what you can do to assess and create those conditions.

Session 3: Composing Your Career Narrative

Monday, February 6, 2023 | 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET | Live Learning Session
February 6 – 10, 2023 | Choose your Small Group Session with Kristine Barnett
During this session, we focus on the second component of developing your leadership career: shaping the right conditions of support and advocacy as you move forward. Part of navigating politics is being able to communicate your accomplishments and their impact on strategic initiatives, so that you are seen as a standout candidate for future opportunities.

You will learn:

  • How to quantify the impact of the projects you led in order to demonstrate your expertise in leading large-scale operations.
  • The importance of being willing to seize new opportunities as they come along, even when they don’t necessarily align with your current skillsets.
  • Rewrite your resumé or CV to quantify accomplishments and show how those align with strategic initiatives.

Session 4: Aligning Your Career with Your Goals and Values

Monday, February 13, 2023 | 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET | Live Learning Session
February 13 – 17, 2023 | Choose your Small Group Session with Jill Johns
Now that you’ve identified your strengths, assessed your skillsets, and drafted your career narrative, this workshop provides the time to pause and consider what you want next in your career journey. This session will be a workshop designed to push you to dig deep and discern your next steps. Whether you already have a new position or path in mind or are seeking an answer to “what’s next,” this session will provide you with the space and time to intentionally consider, evaluate and sort through the cloud of information and emotion and begin to crystallize your non-negotiables, your core values, and your goals.

You will learn:

  • Strategies for evaluating external input about your career.
  • A technique for identifying your non-negotiables, career values, and aspirations.
  • How to apply a framework for choosing your next steps.

You will learn how to:

  • Build your unique brand of leadership.
