Join us for an interactive session to demystify the diversity component of the accreditation process.

Both university and program-level accrediting organizations are increasingly placing focus on diversity in their requirements, but that criteria can feel ambiguous, and many today are uncertain of how to ensure that their programs comply. This challenge is twofold: first, you must understand the requirements, and second, you must have knowledge of various ways to embed those requirements into curricula. The imperative behind this is not only the increasing potential that students are not legitimately prepared for a changing world and workforce, but that without diversity integrated into the program design upfront, you run the risk of criteria being added later that is not aligned with the curriculum or accurate.

This program is the first in a two-part series that will demystify the process of reviewing, assessing, and including diversity in campus curricula. By participating in this event, you will learn how to evaluate opportunities for embedding accreditation requirements into curricula and see a variety of examples and approaches of what this might look like across disciplines and fields of study.

Who Should Attend

This program is ideal for all program-level coordinators, university assessment personnel, and faculty—particularly faculty who teach courses with program-level assessment requirements. Personnel who work with or in accreditation organizations would also benefit from this program.

March 15, 2023

3:00 – 4:30 p.m. ET

We’ll begin by taking a critical look at what the diversity accreditation requirements entail. What do they stipulate, and what implications do they have for how programs are created on the front end? From there, the bulk of the training will focus on breaking down common challenges then implementing diversity content and constructs within and across campus curriculums. Our expert instructor will:

  • Introduce Paulo Friere’s theory of Critical Consciousness (CC) as a teaching and learning framework within which to approach the work.
  • Break down how to design program curricula to ensure that diversity foundations are included throughout.
  • Provide guidance for how to rethink course content with assessment and accreditation requirements in mind.
  • Provide a range of examples and approaches that are applicable to various disciplines.
