Terry Snyder

Since 2011 Terry has served as the chief administrator of the Haverford College Libraries including the Lutnick Library, which houses the internationally important Quaker and Special Collections Library; the Gilbert F. White Science Library; the Astronomy Library; and the Union Music Library. (Read more on Haverford Libraries’ program and strategic plan here.) Prior to coming to Haverford Terry served as the Deputy Director of the Hagley Museum and Library where she was responsible for the leadership, administration, management, and strategic direction of the Library Division, which housed the nation’s leading business history libraries. Her role included oversight of all functional areas of the Libraries including Printed Collections, Pictorial Collections, Manuscript and Archives, Digital Collections, Conservation, and the Center for the Study of the History of Business, Technology, and Society. She was also responsible for supervising Information Technology implementation for the campus. Previous positions included roles as Associate Director of the University Archives and Records Management at the University of Pennsylvania and as Associate Curator of Manuscripts at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. Dr. Chris Davis

In over two decades in higher education, Dr. Davis has served in a variety of leadership and faculty roles at multiple universities in both the non-profit and for-profit sector. He started his career in higher education as an adjunct faculty member at Baker College in Michigan in 1997. He joined the faculty at Baker full-time a year later and moved into administration, first as a Dean, and then as system Director for Effective Teaching and Learning, and later becoming Director of Assessment. In 2008, he joined National Louis University in Chicago as Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness. Joining Colorado Technical University in 2011, he served as Vice Provost with responsibility for online faculty and later supervised doctoral programs. He became Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness at Western International University in 2014, and later became Provost and then President during the teach-out of the university until it closed March 1, 2019. Allison M. Vaillancourt, PhD

Allison M. Vaillancourt Ph.D. is an organizational strategy consultant, national speaker, and executive coach with more than 30 years of higher education experience. Most recently, she was Vice President of Business Affairs & Human Resources at the University of Arizona where she also held faculty appointments in the UA School of Government and Public Policy and the Honors College. Under her guidance, the University of Arizona was nationally recognized for building a community of leaders, reducing administrative complexity, and creating an inclusive organizational culture. Allison writes about workplace issues as a regular Chronicle of Higher Education contributor, serves as a leadership advisor to several national organizations, and has a track record of consulting with higher education institutions in the U.S., Europe, and the middle east. Sarah Marshall Elliott

Sarah Marshall Elliott is an accomplished brand strategist, as well as marketing and publishing expert. Her career began at USA TODAY, where she worked in marketing, advertising, licensing, new media, and business development. She also launched and served as vice president of advertising/marketing for an innovative new media start-up, USA TODAY SkyRadio. Sarah spent 10 years in consumer magazine publishing as the publisher of Tuff Stuff Magazines, vice president of advertising/marketing for Sabot Publishing Inc., and publisher/group publisher of Southwest Art Magazine, American Cowboy, and The Collector’s Guide to Art in New Mexico. She was also the founding publisher and editor of the magazine Living West. Before joining Virginia Tech in June of 2015, Sarah owned a brand consultancy and served as director of marketing and brand strategy for Virginia Farm Bureau. As Virginia Tech’s assistant vice president of marketing, she leads the university’s centralized creative services department, which includes institutional branding, photography/videography, licensing, and publishing areas. Erica J. Lewis, Ph.D., RN

Dr. Erica Lewis is an expert in innovation and problem solving. Her primary work is in the School of Nursing at James Madison University, where she partners with doctoral students completing quality improvement research and implementation projects. Dr. Lewis has coached several doctoral students using innovative methods, such as design thinking to create change in their practice setting. Dr. Lewis teaches in the JMU XLabs in the community and medical innovations courses and formerly in the Hacking for Defense course. Her work in the JMU XLabs includes curriculum development, research of student learning outcomes, training faculty, and cultivating relationships with industry collaborators. Dr. Lewis’s current practice as a registered nurse health coach informs her work with students.

Patrice Ludwig, Ph.D.

Dr. Ludwig is passionate about using evidence-based practices to ensure that the humans responsible for our future are prepared for the challenge. Her doctoral training as a population ecologist at the University of Virginia primed her thinking about how important relationships are for learning. Today, her research focuses on understanding how students and instructors form and leverage learning partnerships in transdisciplinary courses. She has honed her curriculum design skills through years of professional development and practice redesigning the first-year biology curriculum at JMU. In JMU XLabs, she has co-developed and co-instructed multiple transdisciplinary classes that address problems so complex that they must be approached at the systems level from multiple perspectives. She finds great joy in co-designing and conducting collaborative research on these experiences to generate evidence of their outcomes from both the student and faculty perspectives.

Nick Swayne

Nick Swayne leads a team of partner institutions in meeting the mission to leverage their strengths to improve the efficiency and economic impact of higher education across the Commonwealth. He serves as faculty advisor for the University Innovation Fellows, the Executive Director of Virginia-DC robotics, he chairs the Veteran Scholar’s Task Force, is co-founder of the Regional Veterans Collaborative, is a doctoral candidate in Strategic Leadership (ABD), and is serving in his third term on the Harrisonburg City School Board. He’s a retired Army officer with 26 years of service.

Matt Carcella

Matt has been in higher education administration for the past 15 years. Prior to his current role, he was the Associate Dean of Students and Director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center at Cornell and previously held positions at Princeton University and St. Francis University Upward Bound. Matt has a BA in political science from Allegheny College and an MA with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies from Rutgers University. He has presented locally and nationally on topics ranging from online dating behavior to LGBT inclusion in human resource policy to diversity practices in engagement and fundraising. Matt is based in Ithaca, NY with his husband Zach and their dog Duncan.

James Vermillion

James is a member of the University Development (UD) leadership team at UC San Diego. In his role, he helps ensure significant levels of philanthropic support for the eight academic divisions that comprise general campus by managing and driving UD’s $1M+ gift pipeline and helping inform strategic direction in partnership with key Advancement partners. He is accountable for utilizing statistical analysis tools to analyze growth trends and forecast program future direction. In addition, a portion of his time is dedicated to front line fundraising. James is a creative, analytical and strategic thinker with the ability to mobilize information, build relationships as well as advise and execute program growth, assessment and refinement. James currently serves as the Southern California Regional Chair on the California Advancement Researchers Association (CARA) board of directors; previously serving as president, president-elect, and treasurer. He has also shared is expertise in prospect development as a speaker for CARA, the Association of Professional Researcher, the Association of Fundraising Professional San Diego Chapter, and the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy.

Gloria Goosby

Gloria Goosby began her career in Annual Giving and Alumni Relations nearly 15 years ago as the Phonathon Coordinator at her alma mater, Georgia Southern University. Today, she serves as the key annual giving strategist for central office funding priorities. She and her team raise current-use funding for scholarships, programs, centers, and special projects across the University community. She’s also developed and executed on several alumni affinity group fundraising and engagement campaigns in close partnership with her colleagues in alumni relations over the years and is fully equipped to share tips and tricks for success. For her, the most exciting thing about higher education fundraising and development is the ability to make a daily, positive impact on the lives of students.
