Over forty-six thousand veterans have returned from the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and are eligible for GI educational benefits. Many of those will start or return to college. Returning veterans have different psychological needs than other non-traditional students, and campus support services need to be aware of these needs so they can effectively respond to and retain these students.
This on-demand web conference details what campus professionals need to know about the emotional needs of veterans in order to help them complete their education. Topics include:
Counseling services directors, campus mental health professionals, campus clergy, AOD counselors, and administrators in student services will learn about the unique needs of returning veterans and how to begin to address them with the goal of keeping them on campus.
Roger joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and retired from military service at age 39. With 22 years of military service and extensive study in the area of trauma as it relates to war and other violent experiences, Roger has the experience as well as the professional training to work with traumatized people. Today, he actively participates in critical incident stress services for police, fire, and EMT first responders as well as trauma program development for the state of Ohio and is actively developing support system for veterans and their spouses at Hocking College.
