Overview

While more institutions are using social networking sites, blogs, and wikis to instruct students, there is a lack of research about how these tools are impacting student learning and engagement. Can these tools be used to design and support learning activities that increase the level of student engagement? By using a community of inquiry approach, Web 2.0 tools can be used to create active and collaborative learning environments.

The Using Community of Inquiry and Web 2.0 to Design Blended Courses on-demand web conferece discusses steps to designing blended courses using the applied principles of COI through the use of Web 2.0 tools.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Norm Vaughan

Assistant Professor, Faculty of Teaching and Learning

Mount Royal University

An educator and researcher with interests in blended learning and faculty development schooling, Norm’s teaching background includes graduate and undergraduate courses in educational technology, K-12 education, technical training, and English as a second language. He recently co-authored the book Blended Learning in Higher Education and has published a series of articles on blended learning and faculty development. Norm is the co-founder of the Blended Online Learning Design Network, a member of the Community of Inquiry Research Group, the associate editor of the International Journal of Mobile and Blended Learning, and is on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Excellence in e-Learning, Canadian Journal of Learning and Technology, the Journal on Centres for Teaching & Learning, and the Learning Communities Journal.
