Empowered Leadership and Debrief of Five Paths to Leadership | February 6, 2026 | 9:00am-12:00pm ET
Facilitators: Corinne Nicolas and Jeanne Hey
This session was our first meeting with the group. We facilitated an exercise to encourage participants to begin defining themselves as leaders, asking them to begin drafting a personal definition of leadership in 25 words or less. We asked them to bring this draft to a coaching session for further exploration and refinement. We also debriefed their Five Paths to Leadership self-assessment results, sharing our own as examples. Participants began summarizing their results, reflecting on what they mean and how they shape their identities as leaders in the academic community. If you are unfamiliar with Five Paths, you can find more information on our website.

Effective Collaboration, Meetings, and Influencing Up, Down, and Across | March 13, 2026 | 9:00am-12:00pm ET
Facilitator: Sarah Seigle Peatman and Gilpatrick Hornsby
Effective Meetings & Collaboration – Top-down leadership doesn’t work in the academy. Leaders must have a collaborative stance to be effective, but collaboration isn’t simply bringing people together and hoping that good things happen. In this session, we’ll explore the specific principles and strategies that effective leaders follow to ensure that all voices are heard and the work moves forward.
Influencing Up, Down and Across – Having a position of authority is only one small piece of being a leader. A more important aspect of being a leader is exercising your influence. The savviest leaders know that behaving in ways that influence the feelings, thoughts, and actions of others is the piece that will ultimately give them traction.
In this session, you’ll learn the signs and symptoms of influence. We will focus on the difference between influence and authority, and you will leave with advice on how to use your relational capital to influence up, across, and down.
Kraybill Conflict Styles Inventory and Skillfully Resolving Conflict | April 24, 2026 | 9:00am-12:00pm ET
Facilitators: Corinne Nicolas and Jeanne Hey
Understanding how to effectively navigate conflict is a vital skill for mid-career faculty, but it can also be one of the most difficult and complicated to get right. Prior to the session, you’ll complete the Style Matters: The Kraybill Conflict Style Inventory, which identifies five distinct approaches to conflict and reveals your comfort level with each. During this session, we’ll review your results to help you become more self-aware of your approaches to conflict while also growing your conflict management toolkit.
Pre-Work: Click the Kraybill Conflict Style Assessment button in the Important Links section above to access and complete the assessment.
High-Performing Groups and Teams | May 8, 2026 | 9:00am-12:00pm ET
Facilitators: Corinne Nicolas and Jeanne Hey
Mid-career leaders often struggle to build high-performing teams—not because they don’t have the requisite talent, but because they don’t focus enough on the team’s group dynamics and process—how they’ll work together. In this session, we’ll examine seven practices used by high-performing teams to help the team work collaboratively while also achieving desired outcomes. We’ll show you how to ensure that everyone’s voice is included in the conversation without letting negative voices dominate or derail, how to make effective decisions, how to support creative and innovative thinking, and more.
