R. Darrell Peterson currently serves as Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Student Services at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. With over 20 years of experience in student affairs as a practitioner and educator, Darrell has served in a variety of functional areas including leadership development, graduate student life, multicultural affairs, and student activities. Darrell received a B.A. degree in Communication and a M.Ed. in College Student Personnel Administration from James Madison University (Harrisonburg, Virginia), and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership & Policy with a graduate certificate in community college teaching from Iowa State University. His research interests include student leadership development, changing demographics, historically Black colleges and universities, and issues involving the exploration of race, ethnicity, privilege and power.
Mimi Beck is the founding director of Notre Dame’s Office of Graduate Student Life, charged with creating and implementing a strategic vision to promote the success and well-being of Notre Dame post-baccalaureate students. In collaboration with key partners in academics and student affairs, she manages all communications, programming, assessment, advocacy and administration for Graduate Student Life. Mimi is currently serving as the national co-chair for the NASPA Administrators in Graduate and Professional Student Services knowledge community, and is preparing a book chapter for publication on Graduate Student Affairs.
Ginnifer Cié Gee is the Associate Vice Provost for Career-Engaged Learning and a clinical faculty member at the University of Texas San Antonio. In addition, she has facilitated a leadership development series for staff and faculty since 2011. Prior to these roles, Cié held positions related to enrollment management and strategic planning, as well as for adjunct faculty in communication. One of her greatest passions is the study, observation, and strategy surrounding the interpersonal workplace dynamics of professionals and leadership development. Her experience teaching and supervising professional and student staff has provided practical knowledge in the areas of communication including nonverbal, perception, leadership, and conflict management. She has presented over 50 sessions on these topics at the institutional, state, regional, and national levels, and has received multiple awards for her presentation skills. Cié holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Communication, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership.
Tawnya has been heavily involved in the research, design, renovation, and support for teaching of four university active learning space projects including single classroom and new building. Her project portfolio includes: University of Florida, 9+ years as the Director of Center for Teaching and Learning Warrington College of Business Active Learning Studio – a single classroom renovation project, designed to support teaching with teams that include in-person and remote participants, proposed in February 2011, phased development, and completed renovations for Spring 2013. Hough Hall was built to house the Hough Graduate School in the Warrington College of Business – a new building project with a variety of spaces such as flexible learning spaces, case teaching rooms, and cluster collaboration classrooms. Previously, Valerio Parrot served as Senior Vice President for Widmeyer Communications’ higher education practice and Vice President of Media Relations and Crisis Communications for SimpsonScarborough, a higher education consulting firm. Valerio Parrot counts almost 10 years of experience with the University of Colorado System, including an officer-level appointment as Assistant Secretary of the University. Ms. Harvey brings 20 years of experience in journalism, strategic communications, branding, public affairs, and organizational development to her role as vice president of marketing and communications at Scripps College, a prestigious women’s and liberal arts institution and a member of the Claremont Colleges. She is responsible for stewarding Scripps’ brand and increasing its visibility through strategies that incorporate marketing campaign development and execution, executive communications, public relations, and public programs. Prior to Scripps, she led the design and implementation of institutional branding and fundraising marketing strategies for the California Institute of Technology. Ms. Harvey’s career encompasses more than a decade of legislative affairs, public relations, and community engagement experience in political and governmental organizations. As a political aide, she led advocacy and strategic communications initiatives for the Mayor of Los Angeles and the Superintendents of the Los Angeles and Pasadena Unified School Districts. She began her career in journalism as a business reporter for CBS MarketWatch.
In his current position, Tony has positioned the University as a leader in higher education when it comes to new and social media platforms. He is a vocal advocate across the higher education community and has spoken at numerous national conferences on the importance of social and digital media in marketing and communications. At WVU, Tony leads a team that sets the University’s social media-specific goals and strategies and helps to use social media effectively through various campus-wide campaigns and initiatives. In 2015, Tony was named a “30 under 30 Rising PR Star” by PR News. In 2016, Tony was also part of a team that won PRSA’s “Best in West Virginia” award for the best overall PR campaign in the state, in addition to significant recognition for WVU’s innovative use of Snapchat and short, social video campaigns. Tony is also an adjunct professor at the Reed College of Media at WVU.
Whitney Egstad believes the key to optimizing organizations is to cultivate and empower lifelong learners. Her mission is to do just that. For twelve years, she has designed learning experiences for diverse groups of professionals and students. As program manager, she performs market research and collaborates with subject matter experts to develop impactful professional learning programs for leaders in higher ed. In addition to directing program operations, she serves as an instructional design consultant for AI’s online courses and tool kits. A pedagogue at heart, Whitney absorbs emergent research in neuroeducation, universal design, DEI, eLearning, and memory. She applies this research, as well as program data and feedback, in the development and revision of her programs.
Rabia is a Senior Learning & Development Manager who works closely with higher education leaders to develop and facilitate both open-enrollment and custom programs for individuals and teams across academic affairs, in particular for department chairs or heads. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Elmhurst College (now University) and is a proud double alumna of Loyola University Chicago, holding master’s degrees in both Higher Education and Human Resources. Before joining AI on May 7, 2018, Rabia spent 17 years in Student Affairs, primarily in leadership roles in residence life and Title IX. She served as the Director of Equity Issues and Title IX Coordinator at Columbia College Chicago and as the Assistant Dean of Students/Deputy Title IX Coordinator at Loyola University Chicago. She’s taught undergraduate courses and served as a guest speaker for select graduate courses in the higher education program at Loyola.
