From Tension to Teamwork: Cultivating Positive Team Dynamics

Carnegie Mellon University | June 3, 2026 8:30 am ET - June 4, 2026 4:00 pm ET

Turn challenges into growth to shift the culture of your team for peak performance.

Event Information

Problems in interpersonal interactions, communication patterns, and outcomes can be key indicators of team dysfunction. It’s easy to recognize that a team is dysfunctional when all three of these elements break down completely, but what if only one or two aspects are suffering? Join us in person to learn how to identify dysfunctional team dynamics and to practice strategies to build a more productive and high-performing culture.

At this workshop, you’ll expand your skills in:

  • Building Trust & Psychological Safety – When these are present, teams have each other’s backs and can take risks, put forward new ideas, ask for help, and challenge one another.
  • Developing a Clear Purpose – When a team’s purpose is ambiguous, individuals focus on their own interests rather than the team’s. But when a team’s purpose is clear, they can operate with intentionality and interdependently.
  • Creating Group Dynamics – Positive group dynamics ensure that voices are heard equally and equitably, candor is a core value, and the most important conversations happen in the room rather than in “the meeting after the meeting.”
  • Prioritizing Learning – A focus on learning creates an environment that is open and encourages shared ownership over the team’s performance.

This workshop is ideal for team leaders who are interested in learning more about team dynamics and managing within an environment where toxicity and/or ineffective communication may be present.
