Managing Difficult Conversations as Faculty

Few academics would characterize themselves as comfortable or skilled in navigating difficult conversations. In fact, many of us go out of our way to avoid conflicts. Avoidance not only prevents problems from being resolved but can hinder opportunities to build interpersonal trust and respect within our departments. Effectively navigating difficult conversations can improve your sense of well-being, collegial relationships, the culture of your department, and your academic brand. The purpose of this video course is to help you develop the strategies and techniques required to resist the urge to avoid or fuel interpersonal conflicts and provide you with tools that will allow you to manage these situations with greater ease and confidence.

Effectively Manage Matching and Challenge Gift Campaigns

Many educational institutions benefit from large matching or challenge gifts (not to be confused with corporate matching gift programs). A donor makes a gift or pledge with the expectation that the advancement shop will raise the same amount of funds from other donors. For example, a donor may pledge $50M to a new building project if the development staff can raise an additional $50M from other donors. These are exciting opportunities because they show your biggest donors that you care about growing the impact of their giving, but you also know they require a lot of hard work and careful management, often on a tight timeline. You probably have more questions than answers on how to manage these campaigns. Join us online to learn how to show your biggest donors that you care about growing the impact of their giving. You will hear from two experts who can answer your questions and provide best practices on how to successfully approach match and challenge gift campaigns. In this training, you’ll learn how to: Secure and cultivate donors who wish to provide a challenge gift as well as matching gifts. Structure a matching gift campaign that meets the development goals for both […]

Your alumni board is the foundation of your efforts to engage alumni and donors successfully. How you construct and implement a new nomination process for your board can contribute to building diversity and representation. In this webcast, you will hear from our expert, Durice White Galloway, Associate Vice President for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving Strategies at Arcadia University, about how a diverse alumni board is critical to institutional strategy and university advancement work. Join us online to learn how to identify, adjust, and avoid nomination processes that aren’t equitable in practice so that your nominations enable the diversification of nominees and future board members. Building Equity into Your Leadership Practice

Overview The last year has taught us many things, including the fact that we can all take an active part in creating change and putting equity into practice in small and meaningful ways. While many leaders and individuals in higher education are investing time and energy into learning more about diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts and ideals, many struggle with how a new future would look once those practices are put into place and how to become an agent of changes themselves. Join us online for a highly interactive discussion* that will allow you—through individual reflection and group discussion—to “Imagine When,” and discover how you can become a change agent and bring diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts into your daily leadership practice. During this discussion, you’ll examine the systems and structures that hold organizations back from achieving meaningful change and transformation, and you’ll brainstorm, as a group, ways to overcome those barriers. Becoming a change agent can be messy; it’s not a linear process, and everyone’s path will look different. This workshop will allow you to challenge your perspective, learn from other leaders and grow together as we build an equitable world. In this workshop you will: Imagine an Ideal […]
