Josie Ahlquist

Dr. Josie Ahlquist is a digital engagement and leadership researcher, speaker, and consultant. She teaches teens, young adults, education professionals, and campus executives how to humanize technology tools and prioritize building online community. She also serves as a research associate and instructor at Florida State University, creating curriculum to build digital literacy and leadership skills for undergraduates up to doctorate level students. She is extensively published and maintains an active blog and podcast (Josie & The Podcast), which have received accolades from EdTech Magazine, Inside Higher Ed and the Chronicle of Higher Education. Her book, Digital Leadership in Higher Education: Purposeful Social Media in a Connected World, comes out in July 2020. Josie received her doctorate from California Lutheran University in Higher Education Leadership, Masters in Education from Northern Arizona University. She majored in sociology and human development at South Dakota State University.

Kim Pruitt

Kim is passionate about helping people do better business and creating happy and healthy organizations through organizational development efforts. She has over 25 years of private and public, executive-level experience, which enables her to think critically about business challenges, develop key relationships and partnerships, and implement strategic solutions. Kim is currently responsible for preparing U of SC’s leaders through the LEAD Management and Emerging Leader (ELP) development programs. She also provides individual and group consultations and workshops on team effectiveness, Lean process improvement, navigating organizational change, and business-critical planning and analysis. Kim is a proud Seahawk from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and is now honored to be a Gamecock at the University of South Carolina.

Catherine Kaukinen

Catherine (Katie) is an award-recognized* scholar honored by her national disciplinary organizations. Her leadership experience includes numerous administrative assignments and higher-education leadership roles over the past 12 years, including department chair, graduate director, undergraduate director, internship coordinator, faculty senate president serving on the Chancellor’s Leadership Team and Provost’s Leadership Council, and most recently, Dean. Katie is a scholar and leader who balances her leadership and administrative activities with her commitment to and love of research, teaching, and program and curriculum development. She collaborated with college and university colleagues on a successfully funded violence against women (VAW) faculty research cluster in which she serves as co-lead. Katie developed mentorship programs, provided peer evaluation of teaching, and has performed annual and promotion review for diverse employee groups, including tenure-track faculty, instructors, professional research assistants, research and staff interns, finance officers, office staff, work study, undergraduate and graduate student employees, and professional interviewers. *Awards include: 2020 Coramae Richey Mann Leadership Award from the Minorities and Women Section of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences; 2019 American Society of Criminology Division on Women and Crime Distinguished Scholar Award; and 2019 American Society of Criminology Division of Victimology Bonnie S. Adrienne D. Harrell

As the Learning and Talent Development Manager for the University of California Santa Cruz, Adrienne Harrell creates avenues for people to learn and grow. Ms. Harrell believes that education transforms lives and throughout her 30 years of service primarily in higher education, her professional expertise and personal commitment to creating educational access and opportunity, especially for those from underrepresented communities, continues to be realized. An authentic communicator and courageous truth-teller, Adrienne has served successfully in many management and leadership roles at UC Santa Cruz, including Assistant Dean of Humanities, Director of Undergraduate Student Affairs, and the first Director of Development for Student Affairs and the Colleges, where she helped to establish the Smith Scholarship for Foster Youth. Adrienne served as the Deputy Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, a non-profit organization focused on teacher quality public policy issues. Bill Balzer

Bill is author of Lean Higher Education: Increasing the Value and Performance of University Processes 2nd Edition (2020, Routledge), an update to his 2010 book and acknowledged to be the definitive book on Lean Higher Education (LHE). Bill’s research interests include understanding and improving the application of Lean principles and practices in higher education, expanding the contributions of IO psychology to the understanding, application, and evaluation of Lean. He continues to publish and present work on LHE and has been an invited keynote speaker on the topic of LHE. He has also participated in numerous university initiatives to improve university processes and effectiveness, and advises colleges and universities contemplating the adoption of Lean. Bill has over 35 years of experience in higher education. He is a professor of industrial-organizational psychology at Bowling Green State University where he holds an administrative appointment as Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Strategic Initiatives. Ruth Archer

Ruth Archer is the president of the Superior Leadership Institute, where she coaches others for leadership excellence and creates and delivers training on Lean and continuous improvement, leadership development, and managerial skills. She is also the Director of Continuous Improvement at Michigan Technological University, where she manages the continuous improvement activities for the university. Ruth has engaged in coaching, learning, teaching, and implementing lean principles, systems, and tools in many different work environments. She has taught university courses on Lean principles and culture, leadership, teamwork, and communication. Her one-on-one coaching for leadership excellence uses a combination of vision creation and intentional practice. Ruth also facilitates improvements that close the gap between current state and an organization’s strategic goals, fosters the continuous process of people development, and promotes collaborative partnerships and sharing of Lean expertise in the state, the nation, and the global community. Ruth holds a BS in Electrical Engineering, an MBA, and a PhD in business administration with a specialization in organizational psychology. Stacey Deboise Luster

Stacey Luster earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Government and Public Administration from St. John’s University in New York and a Juris Doctorate from Boston University School of Law. Stacey is a consummate public servant, serving as Chairperson of the Board for Quinsigamond Community College and as segmental representative to the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education. To further support unmet community needs in Worcester during the Pandemic, Stacey co-founded Black Families Together empowerment group and the Black Excellence Academy—an out-of-school academic and cultural enrichment program for Students in Grades 1-6. Stacey has dedicated her life to public education, leading recruitment, retention, and inclusion strategies at the Executive Levels for Worcester Public Schools, Quinsigamond Community College, and currently at Worcester State University.

Brian Raison, PhD

Brian merges his 20+ years in higher education with 12 years working in local government and private industry to create intersections where students can discover theory meeting practice. His teaching and research focus extensively on leadership (coaching, mentoring, professional development), strategic alignment (organizational level), and capacity building. He’s passionate about improving engagement to effect positive change. Brian teaches graduate leadership courses in the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership (ACEL), and serves as a Leadership Field Specialist with OSU’s Department of Extension. He holds a B.S. from OSU’s Fisher College of Business, an M.A. in Sociology from Ohio University, and a Ph.D. in Extension Education (non-formal andragogy) from Ohio State.

Amber Dailey-Hebert

Having lived and worked abroad, Amber Dailey-Hebert has supported university-wide strategic initiatives and educational development projects in the United States, Europe, and Africa – she is an internationally recognized leader in promoting innovation in higher education and is passionate about the power of education in transforming lives. Her work focuses on the interaction between emergent technologies and adult and organizational learning. As a tenured Professor, she has taught traditional, accelerated, and online courses in the Graduate School of Professional Studies at Park University, focusing on innovative learning and development in online and virtual spaces. Her administrative academic experience includes Department Chair, Program Coordinator, Associate Dean, and she currently serves as the Founding Director at the Faculty Center for Innovation at Park University, which provides faculty development for over 1200 instructors located around the globe. In addition to serving higher education for almost twenty years, she also consults for the United States Department of State (and DoD) to create educational development programs and leads grant-funded projects for professional learners, faculty development, and assisting with university-wide strategic initiatives in the Netherlands and Africa. Brian Shook

Dr. Brian Shook is the Assistant Vice President for Graduate Enrollment. Prior to coming to Cedarville, he served as a faculty member, department chair, and assistant dean in the College of Fine Arts and Communication at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. From 2004 to 2009, Dr. Shook toured the United States with The King’s Brass and from 2009 to 2021 he served as principal trumpet of the Symphony of Southeast Texas, where he was a featured soloist with the orchestra on three separate occasions. Dr. Shook’s doctoral research led him to write a biography of New York Philharmonic trumpet legend William Vacchiano. Furthering his research after graduation, Dr. Shook went on to publish his book Last Stop, Carnegie Hall: New York Philharmonic Trumpeter William Vacchiano in May of 2011. He has presented his lecture on Mr. Vacchiano’s life and career at The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, University of North Texas, and the International Trumpet Guild Conference. Dr. Shook is a Vincent Bach Performing Artist and Clinician, and is the creator of the popular YouTube channel “Trumpet Master Classes” that serves as an educational resource for trumpeters and music educators.
