Mid-Career Moves: Planning Your Next Chapter

Last updated September 25, 2025

Create an actionable career plan as a mid-career faculty.

Overview

Many mid-career faculty recognize the value of having a career plan but often struggle to make one—or to follow through. Without an intentional plan, faculty may find themselves expending energy on activities that don’t advance their careers, feeling stalled after tenure, or even questioning their career path. This course is designed to guide participants through reflection, visioning, and actionable planning to take control of their professional trajectory. By the end, participants will have crafted a vision statement, drafted a 5-year plan, identified short- and long-term goals, and assessed their strengths and growth areas. They will also leave with a clear roadmap and accountability strategies to keep them on track.

Who should attend?

Faculty who are in their mid-career (5-7 years into a faculty role), who are newly tenured, or who have been tenured for a while and are feeling stuck about what to do next will benefit most from this course. Additionally, faculty who are considering a pivot into leadership or other roles will be able to intentionally plan their next steps.

Faculty affairs leaders who want to offer mid-career faculty development, onboarding for newly tenured faculty, supplement programs for tenured faculty to facilitate their progress toward promotion, or supplement programs to encourage aspiring leadership development will find this a turnkey curriculum they can facilitate. Please reach out to us to learn more about how to incorporate this course into a new or existing program.
